Statement

While I have been mostly known for my paintings featuring burlesque and sideshow performers, my more recent works have focused on the figure in fantastic nature. I am interested in the beauty of people, the sky, plants, and natural patterns. My work also often explores gender identity as I believe that all people inhabit both masculine and feminine roles.

Bio

I was born in Syracuse, NY, attended Onondaga Community College, and moved to Kansas City in my early 20s. This is where I developed my skills and voice as an artist while also taking workshops and classes at The Art Student’s League of NY and Studio Incamminati, with artists including Steven Assael, Max Ginsburg, Robert Liberace, and Daniel Sprick.

In 2009 I opened my first independent studio in Downtown KCK, moved it to the West Bottoms a year later, and finally in 2019 moved to my current location in Overland Park, KS as Lacey Lewis School of Realist Art. Here I teach private lessons, classes, and workshops. Online classes are also offered. Check out my teaching studio at SchoolofRealistArt.com . I also regularly teach at InterUrban ArtHouse and occasionally at the Kansas City Art Institute in the Illustration Department.

While my main focus in my work revolves around figures, I also take commissions for portraits, pet portraits, landscapes, and most other realistic imagery that falls within my style. This work can be done in graphite, charcoal, watercolor, or oil.
